Conan Chop Chop is delayed, but why?

Funcom revealed that Conan Chop Chop is a real thing in 2019’s PC Gaming Show and was set to be released on 3 Sep 2019. But, it got delayed to Feb 2020 to give developers more time to add multiplayer mode, which seems like a major thing to not initially include in a game in this genre.

“A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.”

Mr. Miyamoto

If I am going to get a multiplayer mode, I am Okay with the delay. Multiplayer gameplay has become a necessity of gaming in today’s era. You can’t just avoid this feature and hope to be successful in the gaming industry.

Chop Chop is described as a “roguelite” by publisher Funcom, and as a “party game” for up to four players, with both online and local co-op support.

What was the reason behind the Second Delay?

The new delay comes from Funcom who announced that the developer requires a little more time to polish the game. Previously, Conan Chop Chop was delayed because the developer wanted to ship the game with the multiplayer included in the game rather than a post-launch DLC. Now, after the title was about to release later this month, the developer, Mighty Kingdom, has asked for more time to further polish the game and Funcom has delayed the game until Q2 2020 with a new release date announcement coming later.

We are almost at the finish line. The additional time is to ensure that the game is optimized for online multiplayer and to give us a chance to add some polish here and there. It’s basically all about getting that final Chop in place.

Chop Chop is “the most realistic stick figure game ever to feature Conan the Barbarian,” says the publisher. It started as an April Fool’s joke, but still was one of the most entertaining games available for demo at E3 this year. It is a “rouge-lite” hack and slash with ruthless difficulty.

The game has simplistic level designs with cute smiling characters, easy controls, but when you’ll play it, you’ll find that the game is not as easy as it seems and you will certainly die to the early-level gook enemies.

The game features a solo play and a complete 4-players co-op, and the ability to move “left, right, up and down” through the randomly-generated world of Hyboria. Also, you have an option to play as any of Conan, Pallantides, Valeria, or Bêli.

Death is final, but you’ll unlock new weapons for future runs as you go, and weapons can range from “a broom to a bastard sword,” says the publisher. There are many combos to learn, brutal Boss Fights on the way to Final Boss, the evil wizard Thoth-Amon.

Bleedingcool said, “while playing co-op with another member of the press, we both needed to resort to dev cheats like “max health” in order to even do any proper exploring”. Now you can imagine the level of the difficulty of this pretty game.

Conan Chop Chop has a Revive System too.

The revive system of the game is a great thing. You know that you will die, but if you are playing co-op, your buddy can help revive you. That’s a sort of relief (or maybe not) because that too comes with a trick. Reviving your buddy requires that you button-mash the revive button. The more you button-mash, the more heath your buddy revives with.

However, if you happen to die more than once(or maybe many times), the button-mashing threshold gets exponentially higher.

Like most rogue-lites, the game is more of an experience than it is a narrative tale, and that’s the point.
